Journal History

Communications in Plant Sciences was idealized in 2011 by Leonardo Bianco de Carvalho, a post-doc researcher of the São Paulo State University (UNESP), Campus of Jaboticabal, São Paulo, Brazil. Mr. Carvalho invited some plant scientists of different countries and proposed the creation of an independent scholarly journal for publication of free and open-access articles. In the same year, Communications in Plant Sciences was created as an independent journal with the publication of its first edition.

In 2012, Mr. Carvalho became a professor in the Santa Catarina State University (UDESC), Campus of Lages, Santa Catarina, Brazil, where the journal Communications in Plant Sciences was edited and published until June 2017. From July 2017 to September 2018, Communications in Plant Sciences is being edited and published in the Weed Science Lab (LabMATO – Laboratório de Matologia) of the São Paulo State University (UNESP), Campus of Jaboticabal, São Paulo, Brazil, where Mr. Carvalho is currently an Associate Professor. In October 2018, the journal started to be administered and published by MKT Publishing, however the journal remains to be edited by Mr. Carvalho in the LabMATO. Also in 2018, LabMATO made an agreement with FUNEP (Fundação de Apoio a Pesquisa, Ensino e Extensão, Jaboticabal, São Paulo, Brazil) to have support for finantial issues, especially to receive official payments for article publication.

During the past years, the journal Communications in Plant Sciences was indexed by some research platforms (search engines), such as AGRIS, CABI, etc. In addition, the CPS journal started to assign a DOI number for its published articles on September 2017. On October 2017, Communications in Plant Sciences started to use the Open Journal Systems (OJS) to receive and review new submissions.

In this way, Communications in Plant Sciences maintains the nature of an independent journal and aims to give your publications high credibility, to simplify and speed the process of searching up, and to improve the visibility of your articles.
